Restoration: Phase II: The City of Berkeley is undertaking another round of work at the Rose Garden.
In 2019 – 2020, the Parks and Recreation Department will undertake the completion of the reconstruction of the pergola. The overall project will include:
● the pergola (“Phase 2 of Trellis replacement”),
● replacement of asphalt paths with flagstone,
● ADA-compliant paths to the center of the pergola, and
reconstruction of portions or all of the tennis courts for safety.
Parks has allocated $1,200,000 for this work. Parks is currently working to finalizing the design scope and choosing a contractor.
In addition, the Department of Public Works is working on improvements to drainage along Codornices Creek. $800,000 has been allocated for this. This work is going to be done entirely to the west of the Garden fence. The reflecting pool is not currently scheduled for any work.
Planning for an Information Center. The Friends are working developing a message center to highlight Garden history, information on growing roses, and a place to thank the Garden’s supporters.
We are working on identifying sites for an information center as part of an overall plan. If you’re a landscape architect who’d like to help, please be in touch!
